Racecourse Main menu

This menu represents the visit to the racecourse. The trainer's funds and the current race details will be displayed in the title bars at the top of the screen.

There is a bookmaker's blackboard to the right of the screen. This is where the bookmaker prices up the current field. The player can place a bet at the odds offered on this board by clicking on the required horse(s) and then entering the STAKE amount and BET TYPE on the white BETTING SLIP towards the bottom of the screen. Bets allowed are WIN, EACH WAY, STRAIGHT FORCAST or REVERSE FORCAST. See the instruction document for an explanation of these bets. The bookmaker has a maximum stake he will take for a single bet based on the horses odds. You can however place as many bets as you like on a horse but the odds will decrease to reflect the money staked. The last odds are displayed (greyed out) before the current odds.

If the player has a horse running in the current race the JOCKEY ORDERS box will be displayed. Select the orders you wish the jockey to follow from the list box. Underneath this box is an ADDITIONAL TACTICS box that allows the player to set further tactical preferences. Note though that the jockey may not always follow orders to the letter depending on jockey parameters and events in the race itself. If the player leaves these options un-selected the jockey will decide the race tactics. The player also has the option of requesting that the jockey has a bias for racing either stands side (screen top), centre or far side (screen bottom). Use one of these requests if the jockeys have reported variable going (usually occurs when the ground is soft) to ensure your mount is ridden on the best ground (if you do not specify one of the options the jockey will decide). Note that if a going bias is reported at a racecourse and there is another meeting at the same racecourse within a few days and the going has not changed appreciably then it is likely the same going bias may apply. In this case an astute trainer will not wait for jockeys to confirm and going bias before requesting his horses are ridden on the correct area of the racecourse. It can take a couple of races before jockeys will report any going bias.

If the player wishes to take control of the jockey during the race then the TAKE THE REINS tactic is selected (only available for the players horses). It is wise to know your horse fairly well and have a good idea of how it needs to be ridden before taking the reins yourself. Watch a few races and pay attention to jockey feedback. Jockey control can be fairly complex (especially for jumps) and you should be sure to read the correct section in the instruction document.

The player may want to view tips for the current race from a range of tipsters. Access this screen via the TIPSTERS button towards the left of the screen.

If the current race is a feature race you can view previous runnings of the race by clicking the RACE HISTORY button.

When ready select VIEW RACE to watch the race or SKIP RACE to skip to the next race. Select SKIP DAY to skip the entire days racing and to return to the STABLE/HOME menu. Note that results of skipped races can still be reviewed by clicking the FORMBOOK button from either main menu.
