Breeding

A Trainer that has purchased the BREEDING FACILITIES (via the FINANCE menu) is able to breed from suitable horses in his care. A horse must have been 'retired to the breeding barn' first. This is done from the selected horses HORSE DATA screen. Initially the breeding barn has a capacity of up to five horses. The capacity of the barn increases automatically as the player retires horses and the cost for the extensions to accommodate new horses is deducted from the players cash reserves and listed on the FINANCE screen.

The player may also choose to breed one of his horses with a retired game horse. There is a pool of the top horses retired at the end of the last season. The horses are only available for a year after retiring. Breeding with these horses incurs a fee. Check the INCLUDE NON-OWNED HORSES box to display available game horses.

Available horses are listed in the top Breeding barn table. Click on a horse name to reveal the HORSE DATA PANEL. From this panel you may also select to view the horses LINAGE (if available), DATA SCREEN or CAREER FEATURE RACE WINS (if applicable).

The SELECT NEW BREEDING PAIR box towards the left of the screen also lists any horses available for breeding and is used to select horses for breeding.

After selecting a pair a CONFIRM button will appear (just below the two list boxes), click the CONFIRM button to confirm the pairing. Note that in this game a breeding session lasts two weeks. If a horse you wish to breed from is declared to race in this period then you must remove the horse from the race (via the DECLARATIONS screen) before commencing breeding. After the two-week period is over the session will either fail or succeed. If the session is a success then the female will be listed in the HORSES IN FOAL box along with it's current STATUS. Note that horses in-foal may still race.

In this game Foals are born off-season. Therefore at the beginning of the next season a new foal will appear in the YEARLINGS box. After another season has passed the horse will be classed as a 2yo and be ready to race. Note that if the trainers stable does not have enough spare room for the new horse(s) the stable will be automatically extended.

Yearlings are classed as 'un-named' until they are 2. The player may then set their name in the HORSE DATA screen.

NOTE: You are allowed a maximum of 100 horses in the breeding barn. Attempting to retire a horse to the barn once the barn is at capacity will result in the horse being retired from the game and lost!
